The Government of Canada has announced an increase in permanent residence (PR) and citizenship application fees, affecting Nigerians and other foreign applicants.
The changes will take effect in two phases:
- March 31, 2026 – Citizenship fees
- April 30, 2026 – Permanent residence fees

Permanent Residence Fees (From April 30, 2026)
- Right of Permanent Residence Fee:
$575 → $600 (+$25) - Provincial Nominee Programme (PNP):
$950 → $990 (+$40) - Business Class:
$1,810 → $1,895 (+$85) - Family Class:
$545 → $570 (+$25) - Protected Persons:
$635 → $660 (+$25) - Humanitarian & Compassionate Grounds / Public Policy:
$635 → $660 (+$25) - Permit Holders Class:
$375 → $390 (+$15)
Citizenship Fee (From March 31, 2026)
- Right of Citizenship Fee:
$119.75 → $123
Why the Fees Are Increasing
According to immigration authorities, the adjustment is:
- A routine update is done every two years
- Meant to keep up with inflation and service costs
- Designed to ensure efficient processing of applications

- Applicants who submit on or after the new dates will pay the updated fees
- Those who applied before the deadline will not be affected
