Olu Jacobs’ Burial Plans Emerge as Family Sets Dates for Final Farewell
The family of late veteran Nollywood actor **Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has announced plans for his final farewell following his death at the age of 84.
According to the burial arrangements released by the family, a Night of Tributes will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, while the funeral service will take place on Friday, October 2, in Lagos.
The Night of Tributes is scheduled for 4pm on Wednesday, September 30, at Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos Island.
The event is expected to bring together members of the Nollywood community, colleagues, friends, mentees and admirers of the late actor, who spent more than five decades building a remarkable career across theatre, television and film.
The tribute event will provide an opportunity for those who worked closely with Jacobs and those who were influenced by his career to celebrate his life and legacy before his burial.
The main funeral service has been fixed for 10am on Friday, October 2, 2026, at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
Reports indicate that the funeral service will be followed by a private burial, in line with the family’s arrangements.
The announced dates bring clarity to plans for the final rites of one of Nigeria’s most celebrated actors, following his death on September 16.
Olu Jacobs died on September 16, 2026, aged 84. His death was announced by his family, who described him as “The Lion of Lufodo” and appealed to the public and media to respect the family’s privacy during their period of mourning.
Born on July 11, 1942, Jacobs built a career that stretched from British theatre and television to international film and, later, the Nigerian film industry.
He was also a major figure behind the Lufodo brand, which he co-founded with his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva. Their work extended beyond acting into film production, distribution and performing arts education.
His passing has triggered widespread tributes from actors, filmmakers, political figures and fans across Nigeria and beyond, with many remembering his distinctive voice, commanding screen presence and influence on younger generations of performers.
