Why Funke Akindele Was Absent From My Movie Premiere – Kamo State
Nollywood actor and skit maker Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, has explained why actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele was absent from the premiere of his debut cinema film, Star Lomo.
Akindele’s absence from the Lagos premiere on Sunday, September 20, sparked reactions online, with some social media users questioning whether there was a problem between the actress and Kamo State.
However, Kamo has now dismissed the speculation, saying Akindele simply could not attend because she was outside Nigeria.
Addressing the speculation in a post on X, Kamo said he woke up to several opinions about his relationship with Akindele and urged people to stop reading meanings into her absence.
“Please, we’re on good terms.”
The actor explained that Akindele had discussed the premiere with him but was unable to attend because she was out of the country.
According to him, there was no disagreement between them and the actress remains committed to supporting his movie.
Kamo was particularly direct in addressing the rumours.
He said Akindele “missed my premiere simply because she wasn’t in the country and nothing more to it,” adding that people should not assume there was an issue between them.
He also revealed that they had spoken about the situation and that Akindele would still support Star Lomo.
Kamo appealed to fans and social media users to respect their personal relationship and keep the attention on the movie instead.
The speculation was largely fuelled by the close relationship Kamo and Akindele have maintained over the years.
Akindele has been publicly supportive of Kamo’s career, while Kamo has also shown strong support for her projects.
Their association became particularly prominent during the promotion of Everybody Loves Jenifa in 2024, with Akindele featuring Kamo in her projects and frequently sharing content involving him.
She has also attended important events in his personal life, including his wedding and the naming ceremony of his child.
Because of that relationship, her absence from his first cinema premiere immediately caught the attention of fans.
At the time Kamo was holding his Star Lomo premiere in Lagos, Akindele was reportedly in Ghana with singer Waje, who is part of the cast of Akindele’s forthcoming movie, The Four: No One Fights Alone.
Her location added fuel to the online conversation, with some users questioning why she could not make it to Kamo’s major career milestone.
However, Kamo’s clarification appears to have put his position on the matter beyond doubt: he says there is no rift between them.
Rather than allowing the conversation to remain centred on Akindele’s absence, Kamo urged fans to focus on his new movie.
Star Lomo marks an important transition for the skit maker, who is now taking his popular comedic persona and audience into the cinema space.
With the premiere now behind him, Kamo is looking ahead to the movie’s theatrical release and has asked supporters to judge the project on its own merits.
For now, Kamo State has made it clear that, according to him, Funke Akindele’s absence was not a sign of a broken relationship.
“She’s going to support this film,” he said, while asking fans to leave speculation about their personal relationship out of the conversation.
