Nigerians Hit as Iran Rains Missiles on UAE Amid Middle East Conflict

Several Nigerian citizens have been reported among more than 140 people injured in the United Arab Emirates after Islamic Republic of Iran launched multiple missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles toward the UAE in a series of escalating strikes linked to the wider 2026 Iran‑U.S‑Israel conflict.

According to statements from the UAE Ministry of Defence, Iranian forces have launched large waves of ballistic missiles and drones against targets in the UAE. National air defence systems intercepted the majority of these projectiles, but debris and impacts have still caused civilian injuries and disruptions.

Nigerians and other foreign nationals  including Emiratis, Egyptians, Ethiopians, Filipinos and Indians — were among those injured by falling shrapnel and debris from intercepted missiles.

Many Nigerians living or working in the UAE have described growing anxiety and uncertainty as the attacks continue. Some residents say the booming sounds and frequent interceptions of missiles have shaken local communities, disrupting daily life and prompting calls for extra safety precautions.

Supportive networks and diaspora groups in the Gulf are advising Nigerian expatriates to follow official safety guidance from UAE authorities and to stay updated through reliable news sources.

These attacks are part of a broader escalation that began after coordinated strikes by the U.S. and Israel on Iranian territory in late February 2026, prompting Iran to launch retaliatory attacks on several countries in the region, including the UAE. Many incoming missiles and drones have been successfully intercepted, but fragments falling in populated areas have caused injuries and some civilian casualties.

UAE authorities remain engaged in defence and mitigation, urging residents to stay informed through official channels and implementing emergency response measures where needed. International calls for de‑escalation are increasing as regional tensions continue to affect civilian populations and foreign workers alike.
