Francis Duru’s Family Announces Funeral Arrangements, Burial Set for December 11

The family of late Nollywood actor Francis Duru has officially announced arrangements for his final burial, with the actor set to be laid to rest in his hometown in Imo State on Friday, December 11, 2026.

The funeral programme was announced in a statement shared on the actor’s official Instagram page on Monday, November 2. It was jointly signed by his sister, Anthonia Chenyi, and his first son, Ebuka Duru, on behalf of the family.

According to the announcement, the first Service of Songs will take place on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at the Family Worship Centre, Idris Gidado Street, Wuye, Abuja.

A second Service of Songs is scheduled for Thursday, December 10, at the late actor’s family compound in Okai, Eziama, Isiala Mbano, Imo State.

The funeral service and interment will follow on Friday, December 11, at the same family compound.

The family has invited relatives, friends, colleagues, associates and well-wishers to attend the ceremonies and join them in celebrating the actor’s life and legacy.

In the statement, the family expressed appreciation to everyone who had offered prayers, messages, calls and support since the actor’s death.

They described the late actor as a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, adding that his memories and contributions would remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

The family’s announcement comes a day after it warned the public against circulating unauthorised funeral flyers and misleading information, urging people to rely on official updates shared through Francis Duru’s social media page.

Francis Duru was one of Nollywood’s recognisable veteran actors, with a career spanning more than three decades. He became widely known for playing Ahanna in Amaka Igwe’s 1995 film Rattlesnake and went on to feature in several Nigerian productions.

The actor died in October 2026 at the age of 57, following a brief illness, according to reports of the family’s announcement. His passing sparked tributes from colleagues, fans and members of the Nigerian film industry.

As preparations begin for his final farewell, the December ceremonies will provide an opportunity for loved ones and members of the public to honour his life and contribution to Nollywood.
