‘It Feels Good’ — Taiwo Awoniyi Delighted With Nottingham Forest’s Pre-Season Victory Over Blackburn
Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has expressed his delight following Nottingham Forest’s convincing 3-0 pre-season victory over Blackburn Rovers, describing the performance as an important step in the club’s preparations for the 2026/27 season.
Awoniyi, who captained Forest during the friendly encounter in Portugal, capped an impressive outing by getting on the scoresheet as the Premier League side secured a comfortable win over the Championship outfit.
Speaking after the match, the Nigerian international said he was pleased to be back playing regularly and contributing to the team’s positive start to pre-season.
“It feels good. That’s what pre-season is all about—getting the rhythm going and getting ready for the season, and of course getting the goals,” Awoniyi told Forest TV.
The 28-year-old explained that pre-season is primarily about regaining fitness, building match sharpness, and ensuring every player is fully prepared before the competitive campaign begins.
Awoniyi also stressed that success during the season starts with the mentality developed in pre-season, insisting that winning habits must be established long before the first Premier League fixture.
“The games we win in the season start from now. This is where the winning mentality starts. If you want to achieve anything, you start from here,” he said.
The striker endured an injury-disrupted 2025/26 campaign but appears to be regaining confidence ahead of the new season. His goal against Blackburn was another encouraging sign as he continues his return to top form.
Forest’s victory also featured goals from Igor Jesus and Arnaud Kalimuendo, with the team producing an impressive all-round performance under new manager Oliver Glasner.
