TikTok Removes 4.8 Million Nigerian Videos in Q1 2026, Suspends 120,000 LIVE Sessions
TikTok has revealed that it removed more than 4.8 million videos uploaded by Nigerian users during the first quarter of 2026 as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen content moderation and improve safety on the platform.
According to the platform’s Q1 2026 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, the removed videos accounted for just 0.6% of all content uploaded by Nigerian users between January and March 2026, indicating that the overwhelming majority of content complied with TikTok’s community standards.
TikTok disclosed that 99.8% of the offending videos were detected and removed proactively before users reported them, while 92.8% were taken down within 24 hours of being posted. The company attributed the high detection rate to improvements in its artificial intelligence-powered moderation systems.
Beyond regular video enforcement, TikTok also intensified its monitoring of livestreams. During the reporting period, the platform suspended more than 120,000 LIVE sessions in Nigeria for violating its Community Guidelines—approximately 40,000 more than in the previous reporting period.
Globally, TikTok reported removing more than 184 million videos during the first quarter of 2026, representing approximately 0.5% of all uploads worldwide. The platform also carried out over 58 million enforcement actions on TikTok LIVE, including suspending more than 50.7 million livestreams and issuing warnings or demonetising nearly 22 million creators who violated its policies.
The report also highlighted TikTok’s increasing focus on artificial intelligence. In Nigeria alone, the platform removed more than 118,000 pieces of content under its policy covering edited media and AI-generated content. Globally, TikTok has now labelled over three billion AI-generated videos using creator disclosures, Content Credentials, and watermarking technologies to improve transparency.
As part of its broader AI education initiative, TikTok announced plans to introduce an in-app AI Literacy Hub for Nigerian users in the coming weeks. The company said it is also working with local organisations, including the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) and Paradigm Initiative, to promote responsible AI use and digital literacy.
TikTok said it will continue collaborating with Nigerian authorities, including the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), as well as civil society organisations, to improve online safety while maintaining a secure and trustworthy digital environment for users.
