Nollywood Actor Joseph Momodu Becomes U.S. Army Specialist 17 Weeks After Enlistment
Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has reached another major milestone in his transition from the entertainment industry to military service, officially attaining the rank of Specialist (SPC) in the United States Army.
Momodu announced the achievement on Thursday, August 27, revealing that he had completed 17 weeks of military training, comprising Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) for his military occupational specialty.
Celebrating the achievement on social media, Momodu described the new rank as something he earned through discipline, resilience and hard work.
He shared photographs of himself in U.S. Army uniform alongside fellow military personnel as he marked the completion of his training.
The actor’s journey began with his enlistment earlier this year, followed by an intense 10-week Basic Combat Training programme. He has now completed the additional training required for his Specialist designation.
Momodu’s decision to join the U.S. Army has a deeply personal connection.
His late father served in the Nigeria Police Force, and the actor previously explained that his enlistment was partly inspired by a desire to continue his father’s legacy of service.
He enlisted on April 12, 2026, exactly two decades after his father’s death, describing the decision as a way of honouring his memory.
Before joining the U.S. Army, Momodu had built a career in Nollywood spanning more than a decade.
He appeared in productions including Tinsel, The Johnsons, Soul Sisters, Coming to Nigeria and Play 2 Kill, and also featured in the music video for Simi’s “Joromi.”
His decision to pursue military service therefore represents a significant change in career direction.
Rather than simply walking away from his entertainment background, Momodu has described the new chapter as an opportunity to challenge himself while honouring his family history.
The announcement has attracted congratulatory messages from members of the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Colleagues including Sola Sobowale, Gabriel Afolayan and Jigan Babaoja were among those who celebrated Momodu’s achievement.
His journey has also generated considerable interest among Nigerian fans, particularly because he is one of the few male Nollywood actors to publicly make the transition into U.S. military service.
