Peller Apologises After Calling Himself Jesus During Livestream

Nigerian TikTok streamer and content creator Habeeb Adelaja, popularly known as Peller, has apologised to Christians following criticism over a controversial livestream in which he presented himself as Jesus Christ.

The incident went viral after Peller appeared during the broadcast wearing a white-and-red outfit with a wig and asked a guest to address him as Jesus Christ.

However, the guest refused to participate, warning the streamer against making comments that could be considered disrespectful to religious beliefs.

The exchange attracted attention online, with several social media users questioning the decision to use a revered religious figure as part of an entertainment livestream.

During the broadcast, Peller defended his appearance, arguing that he was simply wearing a costume and questioning why people were offended by it.

His guest maintained that religion should not be treated carelessly, particularly during a livestream watched by a large audience.

The guest also pointed to Peller’s significant social media following, stressing that popular content creators should be mindful of the messages they send to viewers.

At one point, Peller reportedly described himself as a traditionalist and made a remark about dressing as an Imam the following day, further escalating the disagreement.

Following the backlash, Peller released a video apologising to Christians and saying he never expected his outfit and comments to generate such a reaction.

In the apology, he explained that he had only worn a white cloth and appealed to Christians to forgive him.

He said:

“Yes, I’m very sorry. Yeah, I just wore that white cloth. I don’t know it is a problem I am facing. Christian people, sorry… I love you, Christian people.”

Peller also said he attends the Christ Apostolic Church and made reference to Islam while explaining his position.

The apology has generated further reactions, with some viewers appreciating his decision to apologise while others questioned whether he fully understood why the livestream had offended people.

Some critics argued that religious figures and symbols should be treated with sensitivity, especially by influencers with large audiences.

Others defended Peller, describing the incident as an ill-judged attempt at entertainment rather than an intentional attack on Christianity.

The controversy has once again drawn attention to the responsibility of social media personalities when creating content involving religion and other sensitive subjects.

For now, Peller has publicly apologised, although reactions to the incident continue online.
