NDLEA Arrests Brazil-Based Businessman with 6.10kg of Cocaine at Lagos Airport
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a Brazil-based businessman at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos over the alleged possession of 6.10 kilograms of cocaine.
According to the agency, the suspect was apprehended during a routine screening operation carried out by NDLEA operatives at the international airport. The illicit substance was reportedly discovered during a thorough inspection conducted by anti-narcotics officials.
The agency stated that the businessman had arrived in Nigeria from Brazil before being intercepted by operatives who acted on intelligence and surveillance efforts.
NDLEA officials revealed that preliminary investigations have commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged trafficking attempt and whether other individuals may have been involved.
The arrest is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and other narcotics-related crimes across Nigeria’s borders and entry points.
Over the years, the NDLEA has intensified surveillance at airports, seaports, and land borders in a bid to curb the movement of illegal drugs and dismantle trafficking networks operating within and outside the country.
The agency reiterated its commitment to ensuring that Nigeria does not serve as a transit point for illicit drug operations and warned traffickers against attempting to use the nation’s transportation infrastructure for criminal activities.
Security analysts have described the arrest as another significant development in the fight against drug trafficking, highlighting the importance of intelligence-led operations in preventing the movement of illegal substances.
As investigations continue, the suspect is expected to face further questioning while authorities work to establish the full details of the case.
